Ian Robertson, automotive executive on the Board of Management of BMW Group responsible for Sales and Brand BMW, has today confirmed that production plants in Britain will not be moved when the UK leaves the European Union.
When asked at a conference yesterday by a reporter at a conference whether the German manufacturer was “actively considering” moving production out of the UK due to uncertainty over future trade relationships with the EU, Mr Robertson said “no, we are not.”
Mr Robertson, who has had a lengthy career in automotive manufacturing, went on to say that:
We are committed to our operations in the UK, our workforce here.
This is within direct contradiction to claims made in the Financial Times that suggested that the German manufacturer had joined the likes of Airbus in its warnings that British jobs would be under threat from a ‘no deal’ Brexit.
