Budget supermarket Lidl today announced it will open a new, 38-acre warehouse site in Gildersome, Leeds.
The new location, which is part of a wider expansion for the supermarket chain, will operate as a regional distribution centre for the company, and is expected to create around 500 jobs.
Ingo Fischer, Lidl UK director for expansion and development, said: “As we continue to open new stores and serve more customers across the country, it’s important that we also continue to build foundations for the future. This latest investment joins a long line of Lidl warehouses set to open over the next seven years, which are all vital in supporting our growth.”
Lidl has undergone a massive expansion in recent years, along with its competitor Aldi; who are both challenging the industry’s giants by offering a more narrow range of goods at deeply discounted rates.
